5 Stars Great Little Knives
After using these little paring knives, I was hooked. The first, I wore out, literally. I have used them not only for kitehen work as a paring knife, but in many other areas where a small knife is handy, inside and outside in my garden. They are very easily cleaned and they don’t rust and the handles of wood are great and have had NO problems with them coming apart, as is the case with other knives of simular category.

5 Stars Nifty knife
This is one nifty knife. No sooner had I unpacked it and popped it into my block than it was put to task, along with my carpenter’s hammer covered with a plastic bag: “lobster acquisition” for salad, from claws and knuckles. I have been doing this for over twenty years and never has a blade been so elegantly suited. It sliced right through the small shells and its small profile just searched into all the narrow spaces. It really is unique, I think, in its daintiness…but with fairly substantial, and nice looking handle. I have other Chicagos and believe that the walnut is equal or better than the new rubber stuff, when wet. It’s more than a tool, or maybe exactly what a tool should be.

5 Stars satisfaction on paring knife
I am very satisfied with this paring knife. However, I have had one previously, but it somehow disappeared so I ordered another because I like Chicago Cutlery products and have other knives.

5 Stars So glad I found this
I call this my “little wonder knife”. I use it for so many things.

It’s a must for peeling potatoes and then slicing or dicing them,

or any other kitchen job needing a small knife. It stays sharp a

long time, and sharpens easy when needed with my honing tool.

I have some much more expensive paring knives than this one, but

this knife fits my hand just perfect, and does a better job !

4 Stars Good knife
Got our first Chicago Cutlery over 30 years ago. Broke and needed to replace the paring knife. Came quickly! However the steel used in the new one is not *quite* as good as those in the originals, but it was still worth it.

Shun Steel 9″ Granton Slicer The Shun Steel line is for those who prefer the simple elegance and easy care of cutlery with pure stainless steel handles. The Shun Stainless Steel line offers the same grace and elegance as the Shun Classics, but with a seamless, one-piece stainless steel bolster, handle, and end cap. Like the Shun Classics, the Shun Steel line also features their uniquely stable “D” shape handle design as well as the clad VG-10 blade. The “D” shape precisely fits the way the hand curves around the handle. The asymmetrical bolster is ground out more on the right side to provide proper finger placement and an easy, secure grip. Like the samurai sword, the Shun blade is sharp and flexible – ideal for food preparation. Hard, flexible VG-10 “super steel” is clad in layers of high-carbon stainless steel that protect the VG-10 and give the Shun its Damascus-look pattern. Even the pattern serves a purpose, ensuring that foods stick less during slicing and dicing, which results in faster and easier food preparation. Features of the Shun Stainless Steel Series include: VG-10 stainless steel is clad with 16 layers of SUS410 high-carbon steel on each side, producing a 33-layer rust-free Damascus look. VG-10 “super steel” is composed of Carbon, Chromium, Cobalt, Manganese, Molybdenum, Silicon, and Vanadium. VG-10′s Rockwell Hardness rating of 61 ensures that it takes and holds its incredibly sharp edge longer. Shun Steel knives feature stainless steel handles with the unique “D” shape for stable, easy grip. Stainless steel bolsters and end caps. Dishwasher safe. NSF approved. Shun Knives were formerly known as Kershaw Knives.

2 Stars Weight is in the handle
It’s pretty, it’s sharp, blah..blah..blah. Guess what? It’s not balanced well. The knife is weighted in the handle which will cause fatigue, and can be potentially hazardous. There is a reason it’s so steeply discounted on Amazon.

5 Stars Great knife
Shun Steel 9-Inch Slicing Knife with Scallops: weight and balance is perfect, and it slices through crusty bread and/or tomatoes like butter! I love it! My wife is left-handed, so I previously bought her a Wustoff lefty’s 9-inch bread knife. I like the Shun better.

5 Stars excellent knife in every way
Received this knife a few days ago. Family has been treated to any manner of foods that require slicing. This knife is wicked sharp. Beautifully made and a joy to use. I have knife skills that I never knew! I bought a magnetic strip to display. My only worry was the stainless handle but this is a nicely crafted matte finish that is neither cold nor slippery. Grips like the warm wood versions. Love it!

5 Stars Excellent knife
This knife is beautiful both to look at and to use. Very comfortable grip, wonderful cutting.

The small chef’s knife is handy for mincing shallots, slicing radishes, and also for working on larger foods, especially if the sous chef has small hands and finds a big knife hard to manage. R. H. Forschner is a division of Swiss Army Brands, Inc, renowned for the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. These knives are specially ground and tempered so that they can be resharpened over and over again, keeping a sharp edge throughout their lifetime. State of the art technology blended with old world craftsmanship produce cutting instruments of excellent quality, at reasonable prices. Forschner Victorinox Fibrox knives have earned high marks in a well-known cooking magazine which stringently tests kitchen products.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Best knife ever !!
We’ve used the 6″ Victorinox knives for at least 10 years. They can be sharpened regularly, and always are the perfect size for dicing veggies. I really wouldn’t be without them in my kitchen (or our kids kitchens —we always take them when we visit).

They’re certainley affordable, and can be replaced as needed.

5 Stars Well-made, tough, and extremely sharp
This Victorinox 6-Inch Chef’s knife is a great value because it is extremely sharp, holds an edge, and lasts forever. It saves money with more expensive meats because it allows you to leave the meat as intact as possible by quickly and cleanly removing only silverskin, fat, and gristle. No, it is not as good as the Wusthof 6-inch Classic Chef’s knife, but the Wusthof is for cooks who are in the kitchen every single day, and the Wustof Classic series enjoys one great advantage over its other kitchen competitors — balance.

Still, I strongly recommend this Victorinox 6-inch knife because it is well made and tough. For the price, it can’t be beat!

5 Stars I Love This Knife!
I recently purchased this knife as well as the 8″ Chef and 3″ Paring. I was skeptical after first trying the paring knife – nothing special there. BUT…this knife was wonderful!!! I never thought I would enjoy quartering potatoes but I was actually disappointed when they were gone. The job was easy with this knife!

5 Stars Great knives
Had I known it was possible to fall in love with a set of knives, I would have given up my eharmony membership long ago. (Just kidding) I have a set of Calphalon Contemporary knives and thought they were great. After reading an online review at a reputable cooking site however, I bought this set for a friend. (Price to quality ratio was well-reviewed) OMG, everything you cut is like butta (except for butter itself which is like watta) Whether you buy the set or just the pieces you need, I cannot recommend these knives enough.

Oh, and though I love them to much to do so, I believe they are dishwasher safe.

2 Stars This Knife Actually Irritates Me
I have grave reservations regarding writing a review of the Forschner 6″ Chef’s knife because so many buyers seem to love it. I, on the other hand, cannot stand this knife. I am an old guy and have gone through many stages of knife ownership in my life. They are more or less as follows: cheapest thing that can cut a carrot, inexpensive stainless steel (pretty but difficult to sharpen and keep sharp), inexpensive carbon steel (not pretty but easy to sharpen and keep sharp), basic Henckels, Henckels Professional S series, and finally Wusthof Classics with an overrated Shun thrown in here and there.

I was intrigued, however, when the Forschner 8″ Chef’s knife kept winning accolades and I bought one just out of curiosity. It’s a great knife and anyone in their right mind would recommend it- cheap, sharp, well designed, and easy to use. No beauty queen but a solid kitchen tool that gets the job done. A really good value for the 8″ crowd.

But 8″ for me is about cutting up big heads of collards or slicing watermelons, not mincing garlic or chopping onions so I thought, “Why not try the 6″ Forschner since you like the 8″ so much”. And here the story goes tragically south. I really don’t know how to put this in a neutral Amazon review type of way and realize this is simply my take but I cannot STAND this knife. Yes, it cuts carrots, bones chicken, and it’s cheap. It’s possibly perfect as an only knife if you’re in college or don’t want to spend more than $16, but anyone who appreciates the joy and aesthetic of good cutlery is probably not going to be super happy with this choice. I think it’s awkward to use and basically a stupid knife that does nothing well. Sorry. My expensive Shun 3.5″ vegetable Alton’s Angle paring knife is another ridiculous knife.

Before you buy the Forschner 6″ Chef’s knife, you might want to try the Wusthof 4066/12cm Classic utility knife, the Wusthof Grand Prix II 4040/12cm utility knife, the Wusthof Classic 4582/16cm Cook’s knife, or the Wusthof Grand Prix II 4585/16cm Cook’s knife. I personally prefer the Wusthof knives over the Henckles because I like a lighter knife.

I know, I know…the Wusthof’s are not cheap and, yes, the Forschner 6″ would be a better choice to have at a fish camp or the Boy Scout Retreat, but, as a day to day knife I want to partner with in the kitchen, it’s just not going to happen. It’s the only knife I’ve ever owned that I gave away…gladly.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Great…then gone fast!
Upon receiving this product, I immediately and easily sharpened all My Henckel knives and old Chicago Cuttlery knives. The process was quick and easy and the edge it produced seemed quite good.

However, after that first session, the device seemed to be not working as well as at first. Repeated trips through the sharpener did nothing and possibly appeared to be dulling my knives instead. Close inspection revealed that the diamond dust was gone in critical areas.

What a disappointing performance for something that has received such rave reviews from so many …and has not lasted beyond that first encounter.

Now I am in search of another sharpener, possibly the AccuSharp as highly rated by Cooks.AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener

4 Stars Good, but also need a steel
This sharpens fine, but to get a perfect edge, I still have to go over the blade with a steel. The product’s very good, but doesn’t do the job on its own.

1 Star Ruined my knives
I bought this along with the Rachael Ray Furi knives. As another reviewer said,if you maintain the proper pressure and alignment it works great – However, push a little too hard and the sides of the knives are very scratched up…didn’t realize this until I saw the sides of the knives and it was too late.

5 Stars Ozitech Knife Sharpener
This is the second Ozitech I’ve purchased. A friend told me he hated sharpening knives, as he could never get the blades where he wanted them. I asked for one of his knives, took it home, sharpened it with the Ozitech, gave it back to him where he promptly opened his thumb in a “test.” After the bleeding and bitching stopped he asked me to order one for him. On another note, I’ve had mine for two plus years and its still going strong. I’ve thrown out all my sharpening stones and other crap in favor of this diminutive, palm-sized wonder.

5 Stars Sharp sharpener!
Was apprehensive at first when this item arrived! Its unconventional shape threw me off but once set up it did an excellent job of sharpening my knives. It is small and compact therefore easy to store. The price is also good.

5 Stars Margaritaville, Here I Come!!!
This bag will ensure that your beloved machine (I have the Key West) makes it safely to all of your destinations. If you plan on taking your machine on the road, do it in style with this bag and feel safe while doing it!!

1 Star poor order
I did not get the item I ordered, nor the replacement item when I requested it.

5 Stars For those who travel this bag is a must
I was very impressed with the design, quality and storage space for extras in the Margaritaville travel bag. We are Disney Vacation Club members as well as rent a house during our winter vacations and this bag makes it fast and easy to bring our Margaritaville machine with us. The heavy molded cutout in the base of the bag allows the machine to be protected and stable during transport. The extra spaces and pouches allow you to take your favorite mixers and alcohol right along with the bag so you are ready to make drinks when you get to your destination. Definitely worth the price unlike most manufacturer accessories. You will not be disappointed.

4 Stars Is any bag worth $40?
Don’t get me wrong, this is a great bag. It’s hard to imagine how they could have made it any nicer. But really, is any bag worth $40?

Our son’s family bought us our Concoction Maker as a Christmas gift since they knew that we would never buy one in spite of being Jimmy Buffett fans. We love the gift but it’s party sized. It’s too complicated to clean up when making just two drinks and too large to leave out on our kitchen counter on a regular basis. Hence it spends most of its time in storage. Not in the box it came in… it tore very easily. So why did we spend $40 on the bag rather than take a cheaper route? To prove to our son’s family that we love their gift.

Now that we have the bag, we love it. We are just as likely to take the Concoction Maker with us to a party now as we are to use it in our own home.

A final note… the bag did come with one warning, “this bag will not protect your Concoction Maker if it is dropped.” Hopefully, that revelation surprises no one.

5 Stars great!!
loved this machine!! its the heart of the party!! easy to work and makes amazing drinks!

5 Stars Henckels Quality, Fabulous Price!
Just as you would expect, this pair from J.A. Henckels cutlery is sturdy and dependable. The pairing knife is small and razor sharp–perfect for those situations when you need the functionality of a small blade. I’ve used it for garnishing as well.

5 Stars Great….as expected
I purchased this item as Christmas gifts. A little early, I know. As I have purchased other Henckel items, I knew this would be a “bullet-proof”, quality gift. I have already given some out as birthday gifts, and have received a lot of smiles. Need some good gift items (including yourself)? You won’t go wrong. Oh, I did have a Henckels knife that was defective. All they asked was that the knife be returned so they could examine it to try and determine what the fault was. A new one was promptly mailed. I’ll be looking for more great deals from Amazon and Henckles.

4 Stars Great set, good bargain!
The shears are very sharp. I cut all kinds of food with them and had no problem. I even tried using them to cut paper and string to test its sharpness and they have passed the test. I wash them often and let them air dry and so far haven’t found any rust on the steel.

The paring knife is very sharp and does a nice job cutting finer food items. I use it to remove seeds from fruits and melons mostly. The only downside is that I found a little bit of rust on the blade near the finger guard. I thought stainless steel is resistant to corrosion? No?

5 Stars Henckels Lite, but Excellent
At $14.99 for both the scissors and a paring knife, including super saver shipping, this is a screaming deal. I already own the Henckels scissors and paring knife in heavier versions, so why get these?

The scissors are handy in my kitchen for opening my mail, cutting any paper or plastic packaging, and for doing my flower arrangements. They are somewhat smaller than my other pair, but they are every bit as sharp. The handles are almost as sturdy as well; another reviewer uses these for cutting up poultry, but I have my doubts about whether they are sturdy enough. My heavier scissors are available for that and other food processing.

The paring knife is literally razor sharp and does my salads easily. I even used it to slice slits in a frozen pie top, effortlessly. However, the handle is extremely light, and I wouldn’t try to use any leverage with this knife.

The best part is that these products are guaranteed by Henckels, just like their other products. I recently mailed in my heavier scissors because one of the handles broke; this pair was over 25 years old. I paid the postage to Henckels, and they sent me a new pair free, including free return postage, no questions asked. You cannot beat that for customer service.

August 8, 2009 update: Now that I have been extensively using the knife for a couple of months, it is still razor sharp. Notwithstanding the thinness of the blade, it is particularly good for taking cooked corn off the cob and for cutting off excess fat from thick bacon. I flat out love the scissors for kitchen tasks; they too are extremely sharp.

3 Stars Great knives
Knife is great…very sharp. Maintains edge really well. The shears are OK. Sharp, but the handle is not as sturdy as I anticipated.

5 Stars Perfect solution to all those extra knives in the drawer!
Nice assortment of sizes. I now have all the blades of my extra knives safely covered.

5 Stars Great Product!
I looked at serveral stores for a product like this, but could not find them. So I bought these to go over some knifes I had. They fit great; it was really easy to insert the knifes into the sleeves.

3 Stars There are better alternatives
Personally, I find these knife savers to be very snug-fitting, which I suppose is better for safety reasons. I just don’t like it when my knives cut into the plastic on the other end. It seems like these things will end up doing some minor damage to my knives’ edges if I’m not particularly careful about how I slip these things on. Although they are more expensive, I prefer the LamsonSharp KnifeSafes: LamsonSharp KnifeSafes Knife Blade Protectors, Set of 4. They come in various sizes (bonus: this set contains a 10-inch model, which will actually fit my $300 10-inch chef’s knife. The blade saver only has an 8-inch or a 9-inch model, which is too short). Additionally, the LamsonSharp knife protectors pinch your knife between two rubber nubs to ensure that the blade remains suspended in air — this way, you don’t accidentally damage the edge of the knife. Additionally, you can actually wash these in case they get dirty. This is not so with the Blade Savers — you cannot wash the insides of those at all.

5 Stars Perfectly simple.
Items arrived on time and in new condition. Would buy from again. Great service.

5 Stars knife blade protectors
These blade protectors are the best! Not only do they protect the knife edge, they make for much safer handling and easy storage. If you want to take knives to someone’s house for meal prep, these make it convenient to transport with other kitchen tools.

Place your greens on a cutting board and cut. The clean cut allows the leaves to stay green longer rather than quick-browning like torn leaves. Its also excellent with cakes, breads and brownies without leaving a trail of crumbs. The handle is long and the curved, ergonomic shape makes cutting easykeeping your hands comfortable and dry. Crafted of durable white plastic. Safe on coated cookware and safe to wash in the dishwasher.

5 Stars A cut above!
Bought this item for lettuce but have used it also for cutting cakes. It is very nice and a must for anyone who likes to chop lettuce without it ‘rusting’ from the use of metal knives.

5 Stars Plastic knife.. who knew!
My boyfriend hates the sound of metal on metal, so when I saw that this knife is recommended for cutting cakes and brownies, it had even more appeal. It cuts lettuce like it is supposed to and so far it does seem like my lettuce hasn’t been browning as quickly. It’s nice using a knife that won’t cut my fingers off either!

5 Stars Wonderful sturdy lettuce knife
My husband loves to eat iceberg lettuce salads. I got tired of tearing the lettuce up, so I decided to try this. Not only was the knife bigger than expected, but it’s very sturdy and sharp. The grip is also very good for the average cook, but not as good as the grip on the Oxo Good Grips Lettuce Knife.

5 Stars Easier
I like this product cause its easier to have small pieces of lettuce in your mouth than trying to eat big clumps.

You can cut the lettuce then wash it and put it in a salad spinner. Its so much easier to wash. Their is less waste when you cut it with a plastic knife cause the lettuce does not turn brown. I am very happy with it.

5 Stars Love love Love it!
This is a great little gadget! It’s very easy to clean, and cut veggies great! We’ve heard it works great on brownies, but haven’t tried that yet. It’s such an inexpensive way to have a nicer salad!

2 Stars NOT SHARP OR COMFORTABLE but Good Looking
These knives look great, but are too small in the hand and have a poor serration design. I eat a lot of steak and I am a professional chef. The knives will actually start to hurt your hand when eating a rare ribeye steak.

5 Stars Steak knife set
We love them. I thought they might be too small for my husband, who has big hands. No, they are not. He said it’s very confortable to use it. I love them very much. It feels like they are made for me: beautiful, light, easy to clean, cuts well, etc.

5 Stars Great knives at a great price and easy to care for
I’m surprised at all the reviews discussing “stains” on these knives. We use these knives ALL THE TIME, throw them in the dishwasher with no special handling, and ours have no stains. The knives are perfectly balanced, RAZOR sharp, and easy to cut with. Our guests often ask where we got them. We have had these knives for 4-6 years now. I bought the original set at a local big box discounter that starts with a “T”… I found the price on Amazon is better for the same product.

Let’s see….anything critical to say… pretty much they’re perfect. Would be great if they came in sets of 8 vs sets of 6.

Highly recommended!

3 Stars Not a good choice with my set.
I bought the complete set of J.A. Henckels 8 Piece Stylus Block Set with the extra block to hold these knives, as listed together in the option of buy all three.

These knives are inferior to that lovely set and I thought that they would make good additional knives to use when cutting things. The Stylus set has these wonderful ergonomic handles, these do not. The best thing about them is that they are made out of one solid piece of steel.

THe bad thing is that they are serated, not sharpen-able like my nice Stylus set that I love. Mismatch. They look and are made for putting down beside the dinner plate. Not for cutting vegtables on any kind of regular basis, too clunky. Not what I was expecting in that set.

5 Stars Excellent product and excellent price
These steak knives are a very good buy. They look beautiful on the table, but the serrated edge makes them more durable than classic steak knives.

3 Stars knife sharpener
The mini-Furi is probably not up to par to the full size one.

It takes afew tries to realize that knifes should not be fully inserted

between the fingers, since only the tips do the sharpening.

It is OK, but enough to rave about it.For the price it is fine.

5 Stars Great knife sharpener for the kitchen
Keeps those kitchen knives at their sharpest. Easy to use and maintain edge of kitchen knives.

5 Stars furi finger pro knife sharpener
I have tried several sharpeners from stone, ceramic, and a host of electric types, once you use the Furi product you will never go back. My knives are as precious to me as are the assortment of stainless steel pans that are part of of my busy kitchen. Bravo for Furi Ozitech

5 Stars I was skeptical but now a fan
I have a wide variety of kitchen knives. For a decades I’ve sat down every month or so and sharpened them on my diamond block. Also made sure to use a steel often to keep their edges clean and straight.

I also have half a drawer full of random sharpening devices. Some tore the blades, some were too much effort compared to a block, some did nothing at all even with a lot of work.

The Furi is a great little gadget. I was skeptical but it was <$20 so I took the chance especially after all these great reviews.

This (cheaper) version is fairly small and compact. The flower petal design has the flaps peeling away from the sharpening fingers. As previously mentioned, I can see the smaller flaps eventually breaking off.

When you pull the knife across the fingers, there’s just the right amount of abrasion. You can feel the ‘grab’ and even a slight grind of the knife on sharpener. 3 swipes and you’re good. It doesn’t give a super fine sharpened edge as using graduated grit stones. but it’s impressively practical.

Good:

- Sharpens a standard knife really well, fast, and without skill.

- Grinding range is very good: from about .5 inch from the hilt to the very tip of the blade.

- Easy to use.

- Cheap.

- This is a good gift for friends that like to cook.

Notes:

- I wouldn’t pull a thin or over-sharpened blade over this. You might tear the blade. For instance, my Mac santoku knife wouldn’t do well with this.

- Wonder how long it will last with all of my sharpening. Might have to upgrade to the nicer version.

- Won’t do serrated knifes.

3 Stars Fabulous Sharpener but Flimsy Cover
Works beautifuly and is easy to use. However, one of the side panels that opens the device has torn after only a few months of careful use. It has not interfered with the sharpener itself but is awkward to close. For the life of me cannot find an email address for the manufacturer’s representatives to report this problem.
